Terms of Service
These terms apply when you use any tool or page on scramblewise.com (“ScrambleWise”, “the site”). By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
1. The service
ScrambleWise provides free, browser-based tools for word puzzles, board games, and creative writing. The tools are intended for personal, educational, and recreational use.
We may add, remove, or change tools at any time without notice. We aim for the site to be available continuously, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access.
2. Acceptable use
You agree to use ScrambleWise lawfully and reasonably. Specifically, you agree not to:
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or interfere with the site’s normal operation (including denial-of-service attacks or excessive automated requests).
- Scrape or harvest the site’s content or dictionary data using automated tools beyond reasonable human use. The underlying word lists are public domain and freely available from their original sources — please use those instead.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site, its servers, or related infrastructure.
- Use the site to harass, defame, or harm any person.
- Reproduce, sell, or commercially redistribute the site’s original content (such as blog articles, page copy, or design) without our written permission.
3. Intellectual property
The design, layout, tool implementations, blog articles, and original copy of ScrambleWise are owned by us and protected by copyright. You may freely link to any page on the site.
The English-language word lists used by the tools are derived from public-domain sources (the dwyl/english-words list and the ENABLE word list). These remain in the public domain and are not subject to copyright by us.
4. No warranties
ScrambleWise is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We make no guarantees that:
- The tools will be free from bugs or errors.
- The dictionary results are complete, accurate, or suitable for any specific game or competition.
- The site will always be available or free from interruption.
- Any defects in the service will be corrected.
The word lists used by our tools may not exactly match the official dictionaries used by Scrabble, Words with Friends, or other commercial games. Always check with the official rules of your game before disputing a word.
5. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScrambleWise and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the site — including but not limited to lost game outcomes, missed deadlines, or any decisions made based on the tools’ output.
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
6. External links
The site may link to third-party websites for context or reference. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or availability of any external site. Visit them at your own discretion.
7. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. The “Last updated” date at the top will always reflect the current version. By continuing to use the site after changes are posted, you accept the updated terms. For significant changes (such as new commercial features), we’ll announce them prominently on the site.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where local consumer protection laws give you a non-waivable right to bring a claim in your country of residence.
