Privacy Policy
ScrambleWise (“we”, “us”, “the site”) is committed to respecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. It applies to all pages on scramblewise.com.
1. Who we are
ScrambleWise is a small independent project offering free, browser-based word tools. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data. Our goal is to provide useful tools with the minimum amount of data collection necessary to operate.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
You don’t need to create an account or provide any personal information to use any of our tools. The letters, patterns, and words you enter into the tools are processed entirely in your browser and are never sent to or stored on our servers.
If you choose to email us at contact@scramblewise.com, we will see your email address and the contents of your message. We use this only to reply to you, and we don’t add your address to any mailing list.
Server logs
Our web host (Hostinger) automatically logs basic technical information whenever a page is requested. This typically includes:
- Your IP address
- The page you visited and the time of the visit
- Your browser type and operating system (from the User-Agent header)
- The referring page (if any)
These logs are kept by Hostinger for security and diagnostic purposes (for example, identifying abuse or troubleshooting outages). We do not use them to build profiles of individual visitors.
Cookies
At the time of writing, ScrambleWise sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics or tracking scripts. Your browser may cache static files (CSS, JavaScript, dictionary data) for performance, but this caching does not identify you personally and is controlled by your browser.
If we add advertising or analytics in the future, we will update this policy, display a clear cookie consent banner where required, and give EU/UK visitors the option to refuse non-essential cookies.
3. Third parties
To keep the site fast, the dictionary files used by the tools are normally served from our own server. As a fallback (used only if our own copy fails to load), the tools will attempt to fetch the dictionary from public CDNs:
- cdn.jsdelivr.net
- raw.githubusercontent.com
When this fallback is used, your IP address is briefly visible to those CDNs as part of the standard web request. We do not control their logging practices — consult their privacy policies for details.
We do not currently use any third-party analytics, social media trackers, or advertising networks. If this changes (for example, if we add Google AdSense to help fund hosting costs), we will update this policy and add a cookie consent mechanism for EU/UK visitors before the change takes effect.
4. Your rights (UK / EU GDPR)
If you are a UK or EU resident, you have the right to:
- Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Request that we correct or delete that data
- Object to processing of your data
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, this is the ICO)
In practice, we hold very little about you — only what’s in our email inbox if you’ve contacted us, plus what Hostinger’s server logs contain. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@scramblewise.com.
5. Children
ScrambleWise is suitable for users of all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information via email, please contact us and we will delete it.
6. Data retention
Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to respond to your message, after which it is deleted. Hostinger’s server logs are retained according to their own policies, typically for a limited number of days.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will always reflect the current version. Significant changes (such as the introduction of cookies or third-party advertising) will be announced on the site itself.
